As promised here is a short review of the first course I played under the Play more golf scheme. For those of you who don’t know I play off a 5 handicap but should be more like a 10! But us golfer’s always complain about that so I’ll move on. When I first arrived at the course I was very impressed, there was ample security around and the club house looked impressive. We went into go to the pro shop where service could have been better but nothing really terrible.

The first two holes were quite bad, not because of the scenery but all I can remember is hitting about 10 really awful shots (and hitting 2 out of bounds on the 2nd) so I’ll start my review from the 3rd hole to avoid bias :)

The course was very green and I’d give it probably about a 5/10 (10/10 being Humewood on a windy day!) for difficulty rating, there are lots of trees and some tight fairways. The course will really reward a smart conservative golfer as the holes are not really long, but require more strategy than power.

My favourite hole on the course is the ‘Spitting Cobra’ which is hole #14, requiring an excellent drive and then an approach with a mid to long iron for me with a very firm green to try and stick it on. I managed a par 4 here but o nly thanks to a 40 ft putt!

The course is a parkland style course and its quite spread out, the greens are softish and can be quite deceiving thanks to the surroundings (mountains, hills etc). There are quite a few deceiving views on the course which could be learnt from playing the course a few times!

For the R79 us Play more golf members pay I would definately recommend it be checked out, I’m not sure what the normal green fees are unfortunately.

I will definately be back there soon! Check back again for more reviews..

I give it an 8/10
